Even when we eat a balanced diet, sleep well and stay active, the stresses of modern life sometimes leave us feeling depleted. But there’s help at hand. Here are some simple, safe and proven ways to help restore your vitality.
HYDRATION IS KEY
It sounds so simple, but often the reason we’re burned out is because we’re too busy to drink enough water. Headaches, tiredness, cramps, racing heart and loss of skin elasticity are all signs of dehydration. Summer days mean you need to up your H20 intake. Listen to your body. Feeling thirsty and a dry mouth or throat are sure signs that you need to replenish your water supply. Some studies suggest that even mild dehydration can slow your metabolism and sap your energy.
FIND WATER UNAPPEALING?
A great way to increase your consumption is with delicious herbal teas. Try them iced this Spring and coming Summer. Red Seal’s new fruit teas are a great way to add flavour to water without adding any calories. Enjoy them as a traditional hot tea or brew them cold. Just steep for three to five minutes in tap water, then add ice. Throw in some fruit garnish for extra zing – sliced strawberries, lemons or limes are ideal. Keep a jug of fresh fruit tea in your fridge and you’ll be less tempted to reach for sweetened juices, fizzy or energy drinks. Try Red Seal Hot & Cold Brew in Strawberry & Rhubarb, Peach & Pineapple, Apple & Elderflower, Lemon & Ginger, Blood Orange or Exotic Fruits for a calorie-free treat that hydrates your body deliciously.
DO YOU NEED A SUPPLEMENT?
If you feel constantly tired, it’s worth considering your intake of B vitamins and iron as these are key to energy levels. (If you’re seriously concerned about your lack of energy, you should see your doctor.) Vitamin supplements such as Red Seal Vitamin B Complex are a good way to kick-start the engine. Women in particular can suffer from lack of energy due to low iron levels. A simple blood test can determine whether you have an iron deficiency. If you don’t fancy red meat or mountains of spinach, Red Seal Floradix is a natural iron tonic with all the co-factors needed to ensure it is absorbed for maximum effectiveness.
DEAL WITH DIGESTION
Eliminating the rubbish and having “clean insides” is also critical for energy and vitality. Good health starts in the gut. As Christmas approaches we often overdo the treats, resulting in a slow digestive system. A diet high in fibre and rich in fruits and vegetables is the best way to get your digestive system back on track.
